The latest Active Lives Children and Young People Survey Report reveals that despite pandemic challenges, 47% of children are meeting the Chief Medical Officers’ guidelines for daily physical activity, maintaining stability compared to the pre-pandemic 2018-2019 academic year. Positive stories include a surge in girls’ football participation post-Lionesses’ Euro 2022 victory. However, persistent inequalities persist, with disparities among ethnicities and economic backgrounds. Girls (44%) and those from less affluent families (44%) lag behind in activity levels. The report emphasizes the urgent need to address these disparities, underscoring the importance of achieving the government’s ambitious target of getting one million more children active by the end of the decade.
